IBM Receives the 2015 Frost & Sullivan Asia Pacific Intrusion Detection and Prevention System Vendor of the Year Award

SINGAPORE - Media OutReach - September 29, 2015 - Frost & Sullivan has awarded IBM the 2015 Frost & Sullivan Asia Pacific Intrusion Detection and Prevention System Vendor of the Year Award.

Mr. Charles Lim, Senior Industry Analyst, Networking, Information & Cyber Security at Frost & Sullivan said that in 2014, the market size for the Asia Pacific Intrusion Detection and Prevention Systems was estimated at USD483.5 million.  He added that IBM Security has secured the largest market share of 21.8% with a growth of 13.6% year-on-year, continuing its momentum as the market leader in this segment.

Mr. Lim said that IDS/IPS solutions are beginning to see its features included within Integrated Security Appliances, such as Next Generation Firewalls. "However, there is also a demand for dedicated IDS/IPS solutions for high throughput performance, in-depth configurations of policies and filters, as well as full packet captures to assist forensics," he added.

He also said that IBM Security Network IPS appliances continue to excel in blocking sophisticated intrusion attempts, denial of service (DoS) attacks, malicious code, backdoors, and a growing list of threats backed with IBM X-Force Threat Intelligence capabilities. "The efficacy of IBM's products have stood the test of time and continue to provide constant firmware updates to mitigate threats effectively and meet user satisfaction in requested feature enhancements," he added.

Mr. Lim said that IBM Security faced many challenges in 2014 and worked tirelessly to meet customers' demands as compared to their key competitors. For example, IBM focused on maintaining its growth in mainland China, where it took strategic steps to overcome challenges posed by local governance.

"When the Internet started to increase adoption of SSL traffic, IBM Security improved their IPS to include inbound/outbound SSL inspection so that there can still be clear visibility into the threats that may hide within SSL," he noted.

He also said that IBM continued to improve its line-up and capabilities of IPS products, including introducing the XGS Series that provides better performance and scalability.

Mr. Lim added that IBM has also launched unique licensing model structures for scalability, pay-as-you need throughput for meeting budgetary needs, as well as the availability of a virtualized version to meet the growing needs of cloud security.

He said that IBM has maintained a strong focus to expand and grow its business in Japan, India, Korea, China, Australia and various Southeast Asian countries.

"We are honored to receive the 2015 Asia Pacific Intrusion Detection and Prevention System Vendor of the Year Award from Frost & Sullivan. It highlights the focus, innovation and investment IBM has made and continues to make in our integrated security offerings to help enterprises protect their people, data, applications and infrastructure," said IBM's Asia Pacific Director of Security, Roman Tuma.
